The British have been having quite a time of it in recent months in Dubai, with a spate of arrests and convictions for offences concerning alcohol and ‘indecency’. And it now appears that diplomats in the Emirates have decided to take preventative action. Today the British Embassy in the UAE released a list of ‘do’s and don’ts’ in Dubai, which included warning visiting Brits off having sex outside of marriage and dancing in places other than licensed clubs and private homes. The UK Foreign Office also added that the majority of British visitors in Dubai have a trouble free time and that those who have found themselves in difficulties have done so because of their ‘disregard’ for UAE culture. They suggest that visitors who are uncertain about cultural norms should contact the Embassy for information before travel. Good advice indeed.
