Newsline: Romania summons Hungarian diplomat as relations sour

Romania’s foreign ministry has summoned a Hungarian diplomat amid deteriorating relations between the two countries. The ministry called in diplomat Zoltan Nagy to reprimand him over what it said was disrespectful language used by Hungary’s ambassador to describe Romania’s prime minister. Hungarian ambassador Katonyi Botond had implied in an interview with newspaper Romania Libera that Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta likes to present himself as the good guy while saying his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban is anti-European. Botond also said Romania was opposed to building more crossings along the countries’ 400-kilometer (250-mile) border and claimed ethnic Hungarians were not allowed to speak Hungarian in education and public administration.
