Russia called in the British defence attache in Moscow after a British newspaper published what London said was an inaccurate report that its pilots had been given permission to attack Russian jets if fired on. The military attache visited the Russian Defense Ministry on October 11. British diplomat was asked “to provide an official explanation” of reports that RAF Tornados in Iraq had being fitted with Asraam heat-seeking missiles. Britain’s military envoy to Russian Federation and the Foreign Office are preparing their response. Calling the report in the London Sunday Times “worrying”, Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko said in a statement issued by the embassy, “We have urgently requested explanations from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office”. United Kingdom defense sources stressed that RAF pilots have been told to avoid contact with Russian jets “at all costs”, but warned the pilots must be prepared to attack Russian jets “if their lives depend on it”. “We now have a situation where a single pilot, irrespective of nationality, can have a strategic impact on future events”. http://isurfpaducah.com/2015/10/13/british-diplomat-summoned-by-russia-russian-federation-over26167/
