This year’s holiday gifts from the Israeli embassy come with a politically charged message: the occupied Palestinian territories are part of Israel. Israeli ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer is sending out holiday gift packages from the embassy that include settlement products. Making use of the holiday season, Dermer wrote in the letter he sent out with the gift packages, and which he posted to Twitter: “I decided to send a gift that would also help combat the latest efforts by Israel’s enemies to destroy the one and only Jewish state.” Dermer also took a swipe at the European Union’s recent move to label products of the settlements, including East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. “Of the over 200 unresolved territorial disputes around the world, Europe decided that only these Jewish-made products deserved to be labeled.” Dermer concluded in the letter: “In response to this effort to cast a beacon of freedom, tolerance and decency as a pariah state, I have decided this holiday season to send you products that were made in Judea, Samaria and the Golan Heights. I hope you will enjoy them.”
