The Thai embassy in Tokyo has evacuated 127 Thai nationals from the earthquake-risk zone on Japan’s southwestern island of Kyushu to Fukuoka prefecture. The evacuation followed the deadly earthquakes that struck Kumamoto prefecture on the island on Thursday and Saturday. Of the 41 quake deaths, there is still no confirmation Thai nationals were among them, according to the embassy’s Facebook page. Eight Thai people in Minamiaso in the east of Kumamoto could not be reached, it says. The embassy on Sunday organised the evacuation of 87 Thais from Oita prefecture’s Beppu Arena in Beppu city and 24 from Yufuin School, to Fukuoka. Another 16 people were moved from Kumamoto University to Fukuoka. Sittikorn Chantadansuwan, the embassy counsellor, said no Thai causalities have been reported in the deadly quakes.
