A blast and then a plume of black smoke could bee seen rising from the vicinity of the sprawling US embassy in Kabul shortly before 9am (5.30am GMT) today. The Afghan Health Ministry has reportedly confirmed that at least 24 died and more than 200 were injured on the attack just outside the Afghan Secret Service unit. Witnesses also reported hearing gunfire at least 30 minutes after the initial blast. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has already said the extremist militant group is responsible for the blast.
