Newsline: Polish ambassador calls for UK to condemn hate crimes

The Polish ambassador has called on the government to condemn a series of hate crimes after the EU result – including some that took place in Cambridgeshire. Police there have met with the Polish community after signs saying “No more Polish vermin” were allegedly handed out outside primary schools in Huntingdon and posted through letter boxes. Officers say they’re working closely with the local community, and “are doing everything possible to ensure those responsible are caught.” They have also warned that anyone found guilty could face up to seven years in prison. Following the incident, the Polish ambassador Witold Sobków has tweeted that he expects the British government to deplore what’s happened.
