The South Korean Embassy in Bangkok is cooperating with the Commerce Ministry’s efforts to help Thai exporters affected by the bankruptcy of Hanjin Shipping, the world’s seventh-largest ocean shipper. Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said the ministry was collaborating with the Korean Embassy, the Agriculture Ministry and Thai trade officials overseas to ensure minimal short-term losses for Thai enterprises. Hanjin Group has agreed to provide credit worth 4 trillion won (Bt127 billion) to its shipping subsidiary to deal with the crisis. Meanwhile the South Korean government has contacted many countries, including the United States, Canada, Singapore, Germany and the United Kingdom, to ask them not to seize assets from Hanjin Shipping.
