The Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, called on Indonesian nationals in the country to be on high alert following escalated threats posed by the Islamic State (IS). “The embassy is calling on all Indonesians to take anticipative and preventive measures,” Embassy’s head of consular and protocol affairs Windratmo said in a circular letter on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Windratmo advised Indonesians to keep valid IDs with them all the time and refrain from staying in crowded places, such as shopping malls, markets, or other spots, for a long time. Windratmo also asked Indonesians to maintain vigilance when driving or being on a public transportation. “When seeing a suspicious object, stay away from it and find a secure place,” he suggested. The Embassy also suggested Indonesians set a curfew at 10 p.m. local time and monitor the development of the situation through the media.
