Japan signed a new agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to officially open a Consulate General in Erbil. Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kentaro Sonora and his accompanied delegates arrived in Erbil and met with the KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and head of the KRG Foreign Relations Department Falah Mustafa. It was Sonora’s second visit to the Region after his trip to Erbil in February 2015. He expressed Japan’s continuous support to Kurdistan, according to the KRG statement. The Japanese Minister met with the President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani in a separate meeting.
